Special Issue Introduction
This special issue of CMH, entitled “Interactions between Metabolic Phenotypes and Chronic Liver Diseases,” includes a selection of recent research topics and current review articles in the field of fatty liver disease itself, as well as the associated other liver diseases with metabolic dysfunction. Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) may either be genetic or strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome. We are interested in the effects of diet, microbiome, genetics, and sarcopenia on the development of MAFLD. In addition, we are also very interested in screening a high-risk group of MAFLD from the general population and establishing a referral pathway in primary care settings. Currently, we are waiting for the data on the effect of fatty liver or metabolic dysfunction on the clinical course in pre-existing liver diseases.
